From November 11th to 13th, 2016, the 6th National Education Robot Competition was held in Wuhan. 304
teams from nearly 100 schools competed for the prize in the Huazhong University
of Science and Technology Optics Valley Gymnasium. Each team’s robot had different
functions and shapes.
The representative “HaoJie
team” organized by the Science and Technology community at the Nanjing Foreign
Language School Xianlin Campus took part in the high school group project
competition named "SMART HANDLING”. Through the leadership of the Community
president YUAN Yuhao, and the cooperation with teammates XU Junjie (vice
Community president) and JIANG Shan, “HaoJie team” won first prize in the high
school category.
The Science and Technology Community, established in September 2016, was organized by YUAN Yuhao, a student in Class B, Year 11 of the American Elite High School Program, Nanjing Foreign Language School Xianlin Campus. YUAN Yuhao and XU Junjie both attended the training during the summer holiday. The training included knowledge and practical skills related to electronic components, welding, machine intelligence assembly and program preparation and helped to lay a solid foundation for the competition. The Science and Technology Community was also popular with other students in Nanjing including Jiang Shan from Nanjing No.1 Middle School who also took part in the competition as a member of the team.
Background
The Robot competition has been held for more than ten years, and has become a powerful tool for cultivating innovative talents and promoting educational reform. The robot competition is interesting, challenging, comprehensive and confrontational and is popular among students of all ages. Educational robot is a necessary tool for scientific and engineering theoretical education and engineering skills education. Taking robots as the teaching platform is intuitive, interesting and comprehensive. What is more, this type of activity attracts attention from the global education sector. In order to meet the requirements of the competition, the four components of the educational robot ---mechanical, control, sensor and software, must be met. This can be closely integrated with different teaching curriculum to achieve a combination of theory and practice.
The China Education Robot Competition is a spectacular event which is sponsored and co-organized by the Chinese Society of Artificial Intelligence, the China Artificial Intelligence Society of Intelligent Robot Professional Committee, the Ministry of Education Machinery Teaching Committee and the Shenzhen Zhongkeoupeng Intelligent Technology Company. It has been held consecutively for the past five years and has been recognized and supported by many well-known scholars and outstanding experts in this field. In addition, the number of schools interested in participating in the competition increases every year. Nine hundred and eighty seven universities including Nanjing University and Southeast University recognize the importance and achievements of the robot competition and this is highlighted by the fact that it is also taken into consideration as a bonus-point in the national entrance examination for postgraduate students.
