On March 8th,2017 Directors of the International Program from the UNSW Foundation Studies Program, Chris and Darren, paid a visit to the Hangzhou Entel Foreign Language School.
Director Darren played a short video to show the
students the Australian continent, the academic environment in UNSW, and the wide
variety of club activities and different lifestyle in Australia. This
environment can provide overseas students valuable cultural platforms and
potential career development opportunities. Darren stressed that being
proactive is a necessary quality for overseas students to possess. Also, it is
very important to develop the habit of finishing assignments in advance, and
maintaining the motivation to study at all times.
Director Darren lead a discussion with foreign teachers regarding the variety of courses and teaching methods. He demonstrated the new teaching requirements from the UNSW Foundation Studies for this term, as well as patiently answering teacher’s questions. He also highlighted some typical problems that Chinese students encounter when they arrive in Australia and how these problems can be avoided whilst completing the UNSW Foundation studies program. Director Chris also shared his ideas and experience on these issues.
During
the lunch break, Principal Ren and the Director of the International Program
Wen, discussed the design stream with UNSW, AHEAD, and school staff.
There are 13 branches under the UNSW Art & Design,
including architectural studies, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture
and media arts. As a teaching director in the design stream, Darren stated that
compared to Australian students, Chinese students have better hands-on skills.
In addition, Chinese students also have enormous potential for jewelry design
and industrial design. Darren also expressed the two basic factors for learning
design effectively are the appreciation of beauty and curiosity.
